Excerpt beneath the cut as usual!

Arika looked to her calendar before marking off a day. Today was the anniversary of sorts since Arika had begun her monthly visits. She sighed, missing her bimonthly check ups of uneventful boringness. She hadn’t seen Bridget in almost as long, though she had heard from Riana that Bridget would be at least able to live at home soon. Arika read the date, February 10th. She had another visit today, and she was expecting another dual shock with Riana. Arika sighed, feeling horrible about looping Riana into this mess now as well. Turns out the laboratory hadn’t forgotten about Riana, they were merely waiting for her to be useful. Arika didn’t have to head off anywhere after school, so she decided ahead of time to go to the café to see Tara. She hadn’t visited for a good cup of tea since the early fall. Arika didn’t like heading out into the cold, especially when it was snowing. And man did it snow the past winter, which kept Arika nice and cozy inside. Arika wondered what Tara had been up to in almost four months and figured that she could find out today since, while still a little cold, Arika had free time and not to mention the café spent much more money on heating than the laboratory.

Arika crossed the hallway after getting ready and locking her door to the Forensik apartment. She noticed the door was a sliver open, just enough to say “Come on in!” and so Arika just let herself in. Ned turned, hearing the door creak quietly and merely nodded hello. Arika returned it with a nod as well and took a seat. Things never seemed to change here, which defiantly pleased Arika. She liked to see this family not broken apart no matter how many times she saw them. Ned still watched the same shows, though it seemed he had added a few new ones into the mix, and Ellie still made the same delicious meals every morning and evening. Arika smiled as she thought of how nothing really changed. While Arika didn’t exactly dislike change, she didn’t like how every change that happened in her life ended up for the worse.

Breakfast was unusually loud as Ned had something to talk about today. Arika paid it no mind and ate her meal in silence. After finishing she took her plate into the kitchen and put it into the sink before heading off to school. The day was going to be dreadfully boring. With the new school year Arika had ended up in a mere three classes with Mireille, which left her pretty alone most of the day. While she wasn’t too fond of Mireille’s outbursts, being able to talk about what was going on to someone who understood to some extent was a nice luxury, which, unfortunately, had been taken away from her without any option of regaining it. She could have always asked to change classes, but that didn’t seem logical since she would just be turned down anyways. So she went on through the year with just a few classes with Mireille. At least she had lunch with her that made her fell better.

All Arika remembered about the school day was a test with questions she didn’t know, some sleep somewhere in there, and something about a project she chose Mireille to work with for. The details slipped her mind as she headed to the café for a visit with Tara. Arika took a deep breath, unsure of what she might find, and opened the door.Tara was serving someone their order and turned to see Arika. She smiled widely before saying, “Hey, take a seat! I’ll be with you in a moment, alright Arika?” Arika nodded and took a seat at an empty table. Tara knew her order by heart now, which made Arika’s life all that much easier. She never had to worry about saying what she wanted anymore, like she used to when she came on a regular basis. Arika missed those days, though she did vaguely remember a girl she played with when she visited. She knew now that girl had been Tara, and thought it was a nice thing to see her again though she hadn’t realized. Arika smelled the tea and coffee mix in the air while waiting for her order. She loved the smell of this place. She looked around for something to entertain her and caught someone she thought looked familiar. A blond haired girl sitting down typing away furiously on her laptop some story. Arika smiled and realized it was one of the writers who had visited so commonly a while ago. While Arika never got to know the girl, she liked to watch as the blond’s face exaggerated whatever she was writing at the time. Arika watched and tried to create a story with the girl’s faces and emotions while she waited. It was a pretty entertaining game.

Yes, go on and laugh at the self-insert. xD Yeah, that’s supposed to be me that Arika’s looking at. Just a little word count deal.
