Word Count Validator is up on NaNoWriMo! Now I know how many words it’s gonna eat on me! *laughs* It eats 2 words right now. :P Excerpt under the cut!

Arika held her breath as she swiped her card through the slot as usual. Her eyes locked themselves shut so she wouldn’t see her hand slid it through. She never wanted to return here, they didn’t care for her at all. All they wanted was her mind and to send some bucketfuls of electricity through her. They wanted to shock her ability to full potential. Or what they believed would be its full potential. Arika wondered as she crossed the ice cold lobby, what happened to people like Tara? What did they do to her? What kind of potential power do they see in her? What about Riana? What could they see in her? Lost in thought, she didn’t see the doctor was waiting for her already. He was turned around looking through his glasses at her waiting for her to follow up. Realizing where reality was now, Arika picked up the pace and tried to keep up without making the previous actions too odd. The “doctor” (She didn’t think of them as doctors anymore) explained the procedure again, and then paused. The pause had attracted Arika’s attention as she listened for other people in their rooms, but the man’s voice drilled right into her head as it spoke.

“I suppose you’ve been talking to my daughter.”

Arika’s mind and body froze. She hadn’t expected that to be said. Her mind raced. How could he know? Mireille wasn’t stupid enough to tell him, Arika knew that well. ‘Shit! What am I supposed to say!?’ Arika looked to the man’s face to try and see if this was some sort of trap set for her, but the light had hit his glasses in the perfect way for him as they were mostly opaque. She couldn’t read his face at all, which caused her to become even more nervous. She wanted to just ignore it and pretend he never said it, but it was pretty hard to go along as if nothing happened since he clearly knew what he had said hit home. Hell, he didn’t even need her to respond to get his answer. Arika tried to think of something to say, and just blurted the first thing she could think of that would be appropriate.

“Your daughter?”

“Mireille Alarie.”

Again Arika hit a wall to find her response. At any rate, she was able to now move her legs to walk in pace with the man so that she wouldn’t keep them in the hallway all day… though of course she wouldn’t mind that at all, but to delay the situation would just make it worse when she finally got to the end of this hallway. She kept her eyes on the ground as she took her steps slowly to let herself think.

“She’s in my class, hard not to talk to her.”

“But I thought you didn’t talk to anyone,” He replied, recalling information from her checkups.

“Ah, I said I didn’t use it much,” Arika tried to one-up him.

“True, however my daughter is suddenly interested in my work. That has to do with you, now doesn’t it?”

Damnit, he’s got me in a corner.’ Arika quickly threw an answer together, getting a sloppy “She could just be interested.” Arika mentally slapped herself for such a stupid answer. Fortunately, she didn’t get a response and he just let it pass. Though at the same time, he opened a door and let Arika in, so he probably found it better off leaving the topic at that. Arika took her seat once again and closed her eyes. She didn’t want to do this; she didn’t want to be here. ‘Just make it all go away… why can’t it just be a dream?’ Her mind was on a never ending cycle of thoughts and she couldn’t break its path. The electricity began to shoot out into her but she couldn’t feel it anymore, her mind had numbed herself. The next thing she remembered was being forced out of her sitting position and lead out the door.

I hate this character. He reminds me of Jade from ToA. Same type of attitude from this dude. I wanna punch his face in too. D<
